First Shave

Just had my first shave with the new razor. My neck is still intact save for a couple of minor nicks where my skin is uneven.  I don’t think I was doing it right though. I did feel a lot of dragging and my jawline is still stubbly. The flat areas of my face are pleasantly smooth though. Think I need to find the right angle for the blade to be at for my razor. Ideally I would have done it after a shower but that only happens at night. Though for the wedding I will probably shower and attempt another go.

The shaving soap stuff seems to be pretty crap. It does foam up nicely but seems to go flat when on my face. Could be that the stuff has settled out while in storage/transit. I thought it would be creamy when coming out the tube but was very watery. Oh well, it was free.

I’ve changed up my process a bit since the post. First, after seeing Mark’s videos (which are really good), I found out that I wasn’t pushing quite hard enough with the brush. Second, I lather between every pass now. When I’m not shaving right after a shower, this makes a big difference.

I’m still using the same goat’s milk soap and witch hazel/aloe vera aftershave. Now that I’m applying a bit more pressure when lathering up, I can get just as good of a lather with the plain soap as with shaving soap.

Good luck! I think the most important thing to remember is that each pass is only meant to reduce the hair. So, if you’ve still got some stubble at the end, it doesn’t mean you’re necessarily doing anything wrong — you might just need another pass.

Cheers for the updates. I have watched those vids and they were pretty good. I think it is my inexperience with a safety razor that is impeding me. Will have another go once I get some good stubble.
